Dr. Hadiza Hamma Makes History as Yobe's Youngest Professor and Harvard's First Graduate in Development Practice
Dr. Hadiza Hamma, a legal scholar from Yobe State, has made history as the youngest professor from her state and the first graduate to earn a Master of Liberal Arts in Development Practice from Harvard University.
Dr. Hadiza Hamma, a legal scholar from Yobe State, has made history as the youngest professor from her state and the first graduate to earn a Master of Liberal Arts in Development Practice from Harvard University. Her achievements were highlighted when she received the Dean’s Prize for Outstanding Development Practice Capstone, awarded for her innovative work in global development.
Called to the Nigerian Bar in 2006, Dr. Hamma holds an LL.B, LL.M, and a Ph.D. in Law from the University of Abuja, where she specializes in Environmental Law, Human Rights, and Sustainable Development. With over 14 years of academic experience, she has significantly shaped legal education, even introducing a new course on International Development Law at the postgraduate level.
As Director of the Centre for Innovation in Teaching and Research (CITR) at the University of Abuja, Dr. Hamma has modernized education by training staff in the use of technology. Her leadership and involvement in various university committees have strengthened Nigeria’s academic system.
Outside of academia, Dr. Hamma serves as a Senior Associate at Bahama Chambers in Abuja, focusing on human rights advocacy and the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). She also works with young leaders through the Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) program at Bayero University, mentoring students to become Sustainability Ambassadors.
