Under a year since Dr. Stephen Terungwa Hwande assumed the role of Chief Medical Director (CMD) at Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Makurdi, the institution has experienced significant changes aimed at improving healthcare delivery and overall operations.

Operational Efficiency: One of Dr. Hwande’s first moves was to eliminate delays in patient services by creating a "Monitoring Team." This team is responsible for ensuring swift service delivery and addressing any factors that contribute to inefficiencies.

Hospital Revitalization: The CMD has overseen a beautification project, enhancing the hospital’s external appearance to provide a more welcoming and conducive environment for both staff and patients.

Upgrading Equipment: Dr. Hwande also made significant investments in medical equipment, purchasing advanced machinery to improve the hospital's internal capabilities in delivering quality healthcare.

Institute of Health and Technology: He has further established an Institute of Health and Technology within the hospital. This institute focuses on training students in Health Information Management and Bioengineering, contributing to the development of skilled healthcare professionals.

Cancer Care Initiatives: A key milestone under Dr. Hwande's leadership is the establishment of the Fr. Hyacinth Alia Cancer Care Center. The center is designed to address the growing challenge of cancer in Nigeria, offering hope by making treatment more accessible and effective.

Free Cancer Screening and Expanded Workforce: In addition to setting up the cancer care center, Dr. Hwande initiated a month-long free cancer screening program, offering tests for all types of cancer. He has also employed over 500 new staff members to support the hospital's expanding operations.
