The Governing Council of the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Osun State, has established a special committee to examine the expulsion of 27 students and the suspension of eight others.
The Governing Council of the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Osun State, has formed an ad hoc committee to investigate the expulsion of 27 students and the suspension of eight others. This was announced by the council’s chairman, Prof. Taiwo Olaiya, during its inaugural meeting in Ede.
On July 27, the institution’s management expelled 27 students and suspended eight others for their involvement in a violent protest on May 9. The protest was in response to the arrest of some students by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Owode, a nearby community. During the protest, the staff club was attacked, and several vehicles were damaged.
Prof. Olaiya condemned the protest and stated that the affected students would have another opportunity to defend themselves before the committee. The committee has been given 48 hours to complete its investigation and report back to the council.
In addition to addressing the protest, the council decided to fill vacant principal positions and confirm pending staff promotions. The council also plans to expedite the completion of ongoing projects and initiate new ones to enhance the institution’s development. Measures will be taken to ensure the smooth relocation of the polytechnic to its permanent site.
Prof. Olaiya emphasized the council’s commitment to maintaining peace and ensuring that laws and regulations are strictly followed within the institution. He expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for their appointments and commended the Rector, Dr. Sani Yahaya, for maintaining peace since taking office.
