Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to resolving long-standing unpaid salaries, pensions, and gratuities owed to staff of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, describing the situation as “unacceptable.”

The pledge was made during a meeting at the Government House in Benin City with AAU Vice-Chancellor Professor Eunice Omonzejie and her management team. Governor Okpebholo acknowledged that the outstanding obligations were inherited from previous administrations and assured that clearing them would be prioritized.
“It is unjust for our dedicated staff to serve for years without receiving their entitlements,” the governor stated, emphasizing the administration’s determination to settle the backlog.
He also commended the university management for its progress despite financial and infrastructural challenges, while reaffirming the state government’s support for AAU in addressing its infrastructural and accreditation needs.
“Our goal is to reposition the institution, restore its standards, and ensure it regains its rightful place as a leading university in Edo State and Nigeria,” Governor Okpebholo added.
The meeting underscores the state government’s renewed focus on educational development and practical governance.
