Ekiti AGILE Holds Empowerment Boot Camp for Adolescent Girls
The Ekiti State Ministry of Education and the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) recently held a three-day Safe Space Holiday Empowerment Boot Camp for girls at the Transit Home in Ado-Ekiti.
The Ekiti State Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE), successfully conducted a Safe Space Holiday Empowerment Boot Camp for girls last week at the Transit Home in Ado-Ekiti. This three-day event aimed to equip adolescent girls with essential life skills and personal development tools.
Dr. Kofoworola Aderiye, Commissioner for Education, emphasized the boot camp's goal to help the participants navigate the complexities of maturity. She highlighted that the initiative is designed to build self-confidence and distinguish between assertiveness and aggression. "We are teaching them life skills to help them transition into adulthood, and to understand the difference between being timid and being humble," Dr. Aderiye stated.
The event was also attended by key figures including Mrs. Yewande Adesua, Project Coordinator of AGILE; Taiwo Olatubosun, Commissioner for Information; and Mr. Michael Omolayo, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education. Omolayo expressed gratitude to Governor Biodun Oyebanji for his support in ensuring the success of AGILE's Safe Space initiative.
Mrs. Adesua highlighted the positive impact of the boot camp, noting that it has provided a platform for mentors and counselors to engage with female students, thereby building their confidence and enabling them to voice their concerns. The session has successfully empowered participants to face public speaking challenges and assert themselves more effectively.
Commissioner Olatubosun further emphasized the importance of the boot camp, underscoring the role of technology in students’ lives and encouraging them to leverage it for their personal growth and learning.
This boot camp represents a significant step in AGILE’s mission to support and empower young girls in Ekiti State, helping them develop crucial skills for their future.
