The Emir of Katsina and Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, HRH Alhaji (Dr) AbdulMumini Kabir Usman, CFR, has expressed commendation for the university's achievements, labeling it as the most stable and best university in Nigeria. His remarks came during a visit from the 14th Governing Council of the University, led by Surv. Abiodun Jacob Aluko.

In a gathering at his palace, the Chancellor praised the university's resilience amid national challenges, stating, “Despite the difficulties facing the nation and the education sector, the University of Ilorin has remained steadfast and is standing tall among its peers.”

Surv. Aluko, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, highlighted the Chancellor’s influential leadership as a key factor in the university’s numerous successes. “We are delighted with the accolades, laurels, and achievements of the University of Ilorin, which has rightfully earned its reputation as the most sought-after university in Nigeria,” he remarked.

One notable achievement mentioned was the university's recent success at the 11th All-Nigeria Universities’ Debating Championship held in Abuja, where it was crowned the Best University. This victory further solidifies its reputation as “Better By Far.”

The meeting served as an opportunity for Council members to seek the royal blessings of the Chancellor. Surv. Aluko also extended congratulations to the Emir on the appointment of Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari, the former Governor of Katsina State, as Chairman of the Board of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund). He expressed optimism that this relationship would yield benefits for the university.

Discussing the university’s strategic vision, Surv. Aluko noted the redefinition of the Vision 1:10:500 of the Egbewole administration to 1:10:100, aiming for the university to be the top institution in Nigeria, among the top 10 in Africa, and one of the best 100 universities globally.

In his address, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, expressed condolences to the Emir on the recent passing of his younger brother and invited him to the upcoming 39th Convocation Ceremonies in October 2024. The Chancellor’s attendance is highly anticipated, as his ongoing support is believed to propel the university to greater heights.

The 14th Governing Council was inaugurated on July 4, 2024, with its inaugural meeting held on August 26, 2024. The meeting included other external members of the Council and key administrative staff, further demonstrating the collaborative efforts driving the university's success.
