Established in 1980, Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) holds the distinction of being Nigeria’s first state university.

Originally founded as Anambra State University of Science and Technology, Enugu (ASUTECH) in 1981, the institution was renamed ESUT in 1991 following the creation of Enugu State from the former Anambra State.

Despite the name change, ESUT retained the core elements of its predecessor, including its main campus, logo, colors, anthem, and foundational philosophy.
