Professor Iche condemned the unequal treatment, noting that private universities play a significant role in shaping the educational landscape of the country. He argued that it is unjust for private universities, which also serve the nation's educational needs, to be deprived of financial support from TETFUND.
Describing Evangel University as a "not-for-profit university," Professor Iche emphasized its commitment to providing quality education at affordable rates. He mentioned that despite the university's low tuition fees, it ensures regular payment of staff salaries and other expenses, with subsidies from the Assemblies of God Church, Nigeria, which serves as the university's proprietor.
Addressing concerns about discipline, Professor Iche affirmed the university's strict adherence to disciplinary standards, including the enforcement of dress codes for students in various courses.
The call for the inclusion of private universities in TETFUND allocation reflects ongoing efforts to promote equity and fairness in the Nigerian higher education system. As stakeholders continue to engage in dialogue on this issue, the hope is to achieve a more inclusive and supportive environment for all institutions of higher learning in the country.
