FCE Abeokuta to Graduate 6,444 Students as Provost Rejects Call to Scrap Colleges

The Provost of the Federal College of Education, Osiele, Abeokuta, Dr. Rafiu Soyele, has announced that a total of 6,444 students will be graduating during the school's 25th combined convocations scheduled for Thursday. The convocations encompass four academic sessions: 2018/2019, 2019/2020, 2020/2021, and 2021/2022.

Dr. Soyele also expressed concern over the declining admissions to Colleges of Education nationwide, proposing a dual-mode system as a solution where students spend two years for NCE followed by a one-year compulsory Teaching Practice and then return for a two-year degree program.

He emphasized the importance of maintaining Colleges of Education, warning against their scrapping as it would harm the nation's education system.

The convocation will feature a lecture by the Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission, Prof. Tunji Olaopa, and the conferment of Fellowship awards on four distinguished Nigerians for their contributions to nation-building: Oba (Prof.) Saka Matemilola, Yeye Temitope Adeola, Dr. Gideon Nzeribe, and Dr. Ayodele Ajayi.
