FCE Abeokuta to Graduate 6,444 Students as Provost Rejects Call to Scrap Colleges
Thirteen of the graduands achieved distinctions, while 11 attained credits, and the rest will graduate on merit. The delay in convocation, despite many graduates already receiving their certificates, was attributed to a lack of funds and the need to manage resources judiciously.
The Provost of the Federal College of Education, Osiele, Abeokuta, Dr. Rafiu Soyele, has announced that a total of 6,444 students will be graduating during the school's 25th combined convocations scheduled for Thursday. The convocations encompass four academic sessions: 2018/2019, 2019/2020, 2020/2021, and 2021/2022.
Thirteen of the graduands achieved distinctions, while 11 attained credits, and the rest will graduate on merit. The delay in convocation, despite many graduates already receiving their certificates, was attributed to a lack of funds and the need to manage resources judiciously.
Dr. Soyele also expressed concern over the declining admissions to Colleges of Education nationwide, proposing a dual-mode system as a solution where students spend two years for NCE followed by a one-year compulsory Teaching Practice and then return for a two-year degree program.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining Colleges of Education, warning against their scrapping as it would harm the nation's education system.
The convocation will feature a lecture by the Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission, Prof. Tunji Olaopa, and the conferment of Fellowship awards on four distinguished Nigerians for their contributions to nation-building: Oba (Prof.) Saka Matemilola, Yeye Temitope Adeola, Dr. Gideon Nzeribe, and Dr. Ayodele Ajayi.
