The Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has launched the LearnTech 1.0 webinar series for 2025 to equip students, staff, and professionals with skills in technology, innovation, and intellectual property rights.

The Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has launched its highly anticipated LearnTech 1.0 webinar series for 2025, an initiative designed to equip students, staff, entrepreneurs, and professionals with cutting-edge knowledge in technology, innovation, and intellectual property (IP) rights. The series, which commenced in February, has already delivered two insightful sessions, with more planned in the coming months.
The inaugural webinar, held on February 8, 2025, focused on "Introduction to Intellectual Property Rights in Relation to Trademark and Patent Protection." Uche Obiajunwa, Lead IP Consultant at Godwins Integrated Ventures LTD, led the session, providing participants with valuable insights into intellectual property (IP) concepts, distinctions between IP and industrial property rights, and the proper legal channels for filing IP rights. The discussion covered trademark classifications, lifespans, and their significance in business registration, as well as the essentials of patent registration and ownership. Attendees gained a comprehensive understanding of safeguarding innovations through a well-defined IP policy.
The second session, held on February 10, 2025, was titled "Guide on Applying for the Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF) Seed Grant." Grace Oladele, a FUOYE alumna and TEF grant recipient, led the session, offering practical guidance on TEF's mission, application requirements, and effective strategies for passing the screening test. The session provided attendees with essential tools to craft compelling applications for the $5000 grant, with many participants immediately beginning their application process.
Looking ahead, the next session is scheduled for Friday, March 14, 2025, and will explore "Human-Centered Innovation: Design Thinking for Digital Solutions and Market Adoption." Olabisi Yahaya, a seasoned Business Analyst and UX Designer from FCT, Abuja, will facilitate the session. Participants will learn core principles of Design Thinking, strategies for empathizing with users, and how to align digital solutions with market demands for successful adoption and impact.
The LearnTech 1.0 series underscores FUOYE’s commitment to fostering innovation and bridging the gap between academia and industry. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi S. Fasina, expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative, emphasizing its significance in advancing digital literacy. He noted that the series reflects FUOYE’s dedication to equipping students and professionals with skills necessary for success in a technology-driven world.
