The Vice-Chancellor of the Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED) Ondo, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola, has stated that the Management, staff and students of the Federal College of Education Ilawe-Ekiti (FCEIE), Ekiti State, South-west, Nigeria, are lucky to have Dr. Smart Odunayo Olugbeko as the Provost of the institution.

Prof. Popoola made the statement in a goodwill message delivered on Tuesday June 23,2026, at the temporary campus of the FCEIE, during the inauguration of Dr. Smart Odunayo Olugbeko as second substantive Provost of the College.

Congratulating management, staff and students of the institution, the University Administrator, described the occasion as great achievement, and a new era in the history of the college, while expressing optimism that the emergence of Dr. Olugbeko as head of the institution, would advance its growth. 

Earlier in his remarks on the occasion, the Chairman Governing Council FCEIE, Prof. Adesola Olatunde Adepoju, described the new FCEIE Provost, Dr. Smart Odunayo Olugbeko as a man of history and a renowned labour leader who "has made significant contributions to educational development in Nigeria.

The FCEIE Governing Council chair urged staff and students of the institution to support the new leadership in the institution, while expressing hope that the college would experience greater advancement during his (Olugbeko's) tenure.

In his own remarks, the new Provost, FCEIE, Dr.Smart Olugbeko, expressed gratitude to God, and appreciated members of the institution's Governing Council, staff and students, for opportunity given to him to lead the college.

Unveiling his vision for the institution, Olugbeko promised to harness and mobilise all human and material resources together to ensure that the college attains global recognition, as world class institution in teacher education during his tenure.

In addition, he also dropped hints of plan by his administration to work tirelessly in ensuring the actualisation of dual mode mandate of awarding degree in the institution stating that the move would help in advancing educational development in the college.

While pleading for support from all stakeholders, the new FCEIE boss assures staff and students of the college that his administration would give priority to staff welfare, academic development and career upliftment.

In addition, he promised to give his best and create room for dialogue, just as he appealed to staff of the college to join hands with him in the task of elevating the institution to greater heights.

The new FCEIE Provost, however, urged workers in the institution to rededicate themselves in the discharge of their duties, stating that his administration would not condone any act " that will be detrimental to the development of the institution".

The highpoint of the ceremony, which held at the multi-purpose hall in the college, was the decoration of Dr. Smart Odunayo Olugbeko with academic gown, cap and hood by the Chairman Governing Council FCEIE, Prof. Adesola Olatunde Adepoju, who was assisted by the Vice-Chancellor AFUED Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola and the representative of the Vice-Chancellor Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, Prof. J.B Ayodele.

Eminent personalities who witnessed the occasion, included Principal officers of AFUED: Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bayode Isaiah Popoola; Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ireti Folasade Alao; Registrar, Mrs. Olufisayo Fakorede; Bursar, Mrs. Taiwo Adedoyin and Librarian, Dr. Azino Akpokuriere.

Also among the list of dignitaries present at the occasion were, the immediate past Acting Vice-Chancellor AFUED, Prof. Samuel Akinrinola Akintunde, immediate past Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor AFUED, Prof. Olufemi Olajuyigbe, Deans and Directors, Heads of Directorates, Divisions and Units as well as leaders and executive members of workers unions in AFUED.

The well attended ceremony also had principal officers of FCEIE, representative of Ekiti State Government, Past and present leadership and executive members of COEASU as well as several staff of AFUED from different departments in attendance.
