The Federal Government has approved the creation of the National Citizens Value Brigade in primary and secondary schools nationwide. This initiative aims to address the erosion of good morals and values among the youth, which has led to various forms of misconduct.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, announced this decision after the Federal Executive Council meeting at Aso Rock Villa, Abuja. He stated that the brigade is designed to instill a new culture of values that the country can be proud of.

Idris highlighted that the council has approved several policy changes to strengthen the national value system. The establishment of the National Citizens Value Brigade in schools is a key part of this effort. The council noted the decline in values among the younger generation, leading to behaviors that are not in line with Nigeria’s traditions and norms. There is a need to reinforce and return to the core values that Nigeria is known for.
Additionally, the Federal Government has mandated the introduction of a national value charter into the basic and post-basic school curricula, which includes standardizing national symbols. Idris explained that the new syllabus will form key aspects of civic education and will be adopted by government appointees upon assumption of duty. The inclusion of the national value charter and national symbols in the curriculum aims to ensure that civic education promotes these values effectively.
