The Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, has pledged that the federal government will hold accountable the contractors responsible for the failed 7.1 megawatts solar hybrid power plant at Bayero University, Kano (BUK).

During an inspection of the solar plant site, Prof. Mamman expressed the government's determination to ensure transparency and accountability regarding the project's execution.

The solar project, which was commissioned in 2019, failed to meet the expected results despite an expenditure of nearly N5 billion. Prof. Mamman emphasized the need to investigate and address the project's shortcomings, considering it as taxpayers' money.

In his statement, Prof. Mamman stated, "We are going to chase up those who handled this project to ensure we get value for our money." He emphasized the importance of accountability and vowed to utilize the federal government's resources to hold individuals or entities responsible for the project's failure.

Furthermore, the minister highlighted the federal government's commitment to empowering Nigerian universities through projects like the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), as approved by President Bola Tinubu. He commended the management of Bayero University, Kano, for their diligence and prudent management of funds in executing various projects within a short timeframe.

Additionally, Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, commissioned the School Of Post Graduate Studies and the Development/Computer Centre at the university, funded by the lawmaker. Both Prof. Mamman and Senator Jibrin lauded the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sagir Adamu Abbas, for his leadership and efficient utilization of resources in enhancing learning facilities at the institution.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abbas, expressed gratitude for the support received from the minister and the lawmaker, emphasizing the university's commitment to providing conducive learning environments and executing projects aimed at academic excellence.
