Justice Inyang Ekwo, who presided over the case, found the Director General of NYSC and the corps guilty of misrepresenting material facts. He ruled that the certificate presented by Governor Mbah to the Independent National Electoral Commission was authentic and validly issued by NYSC.
The Federal High Court in Abuja ruled in favor of Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, in a certificate dispute with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). The court awarded N5 million in damages against the NYSC for falsely alleging that Governor Mbah's discharge certificate was fake.
Justice Inyang Ekwo, who presided over the case, found the Director General of NYSC and the corps guilty of misrepresenting material facts. He ruled that the certificate presented by Governor Mbah to the Independent National Electoral Commission was authentic and validly issued by NYSC. The evidence presented in court confirmed that Governor Mbah was mobilized for NYSC in 2001 and completed his service in 2003.

During his service, Governor Mbah had sought and received permission from NYSC to attend the Nigerian Law School. The court also noted that NYSC did not challenge the evidence that Governor Mbah served in a law firm during his service. Justice Ekwo criticized NYSC for not pursuing forgery charges if they genuinely believed that the certificate was fake.
In conclusion, the court determined that NYSC had acted mischievously and in bad faith by denying Governor Mbah's NYSC certificate. The ruling restrained NYSC from engaging in further publication disclaiming the authenticity of the certificate.
