Federal Poly Bida Lecturer Collapses and Dies During Visit
Authorities in Niger State are investigating the sudden death of Abdulfatai Aiyede, a 53-year-old lecturer at the Federal Polytechnic, Bida, who reportedly collapsed and died while visiting a residence in the state capital.
The incident occurred on January 27, 2026, at a house on Niteco Road, Tunga. According to police reports, Mr. Aiyede was visiting Stella Joseph, a 25-year-old nursing student, at the time of the occurrence.
Reports indicate that during the visit, the lecturer was served a meal of spaghetti and eggs. Shortly after consuming the meal, he allegedly began to convulse before collapsing. Although he was rushed to the General Hospital, Minna, medical personnel pronounced him dead on arrival.
The Niger State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Stella Joseph in connection with the death. The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Wasiu Abiodun, clarified that the arrest is a procedural part of the ongoing investigation.
Status of Investigation: Authorities are currently awaiting the results of a medical examination (autopsy) to determine the precise cause of death.
Official Stance: SP Abiodun emphasized that the arrest does not imply a declaration of guilt, but is necessary to uncover the circumstances surrounding the sudden demise.
The deceased’s body remains under medical examination while the family has been formally notified. The police have promised to provide further updates as forensic results become available.
