"I Feel Incomplete If I Don’t Read Every Day": The Story of UNILAG Perfect 5.0 Graduate

Chukwuzubelu Benedict Umeozor, a 24-year-old graduate of the Department of Business Administration, has become the Overall Best Graduating Student at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) for the 2025 academic session with a perfect 5.00 CGPA. This achievement marks him as the first student in the history of his department and faculty to reach this milestone.

Benedict attributes his success to a disciplined reading culture, guided by the principle: "I feel incomplete if I don’t read every day". He prioritized consistent daily study over cramming. Inspired by the lack of perfect scores in his faculty, he aimed for a First Class from his first year. He tackled difficult subjects head-on, utilizing peer support to stay focused.

Benedict faced challenges including admission delays after secondary school, leading him to work before enrolling in UNILAG in 2019. From his second year, he became financially independent by working in software development, providing tutorials, and offering tech training. The pandemic and strikes extended his degree, but he used this time to master front-end development, balancing his studies with professional tech work.
