Borno Education Commissioner Hails Reforms and Infrastructure Growth at Kashim Ibrahim University

The Borno State Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, has lauded the management of Kashim Ibrahim University (KIU) for achieving significant academic progress and implementing transformative institutional reforms.

During his third oversight and assessment tour of the institution, the Commissioner commended the successful execution of the university’s maiden convocation and the strategic recruitment of academic staff, which has bolstered the institution’s standing.

A major highlight of the visit was the Commissioner’s commitment to improving student living conditions and campus security. Key interventions included:

Hostel Support: The donation of 300 mattresses specifically for female students residing on campus.

Logistics: The allocation of three school buses to ease transportation hurdles for staff and students.

Security & Facilities: An inspection of the ongoing perimeter fencing project and an evaluation of lecture hall requirements.

In a move to modernize teacher training, Engr. Wakilbe allocated Smart School facilities to the Faculty of Education. He challenged the academic staff to produce technologically-driven educators by fully adopting e-teaching methods, supported by federal government provisions.

Responding to the visit, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Babagana Gutti, highlighted several operational successes:

Staff Integration: The seamless harmonization of personnel from the defunct KICOE into the university workforce.

Operational Restoration: The replacement of vandalized electrical cables, restoration of water supply, and the full activation of the university portal.

Facility Expansion: Confirmation that despite current shortages, arrangements are underway to construct new lecture halls and classrooms within the year.

The visit concluded with a pledge from the Commissioner to support the conversion of the AK Benisheikh School and provide an additional staff bus, reaffirming the Borno State Government’s commitment to the university's long-term excellence.
