Federal Polytechnic Bali Students Embark on Industrial Excursion
Students of Civil Engineering and Building Technology from the Federal Polytechnic Bali recently went on a one-day excursion to Mambilla Beverages Nigeria Ltd, Kakara-Gembu, Tunga Dam, and the 235km Bali–Serti–Gembu road project. The excursion aimed to provide students with practical exposure to real-world applications of their field.
At Mambilla Beverages, the students learned about the cultivation of Highland Tea, which is grown organically without chemicals. They were informed about the tea's health benefits and its remarkable lifespan of 150–200 years. Engr. Abubakar Ahmed, who guided the students, highlighted the significance of sustainable agricultural practices.
The students also visited the Tunga Dam, a gravity dam with a capacity of 10.26 cubic meters, located at an altitude of 1,185m. They learned about the dam's role in supplying electricity to Mambilla Beverages and providing water for irrigation and local communities.
On the Bali–Serti–Gembu road project, Engr. Auwal Abdulaziz from the Federal Ministry of Works explained the scope of the project, which involves rehabilitation and reconstruction. The project features retaining walls, bridges, and drainages along hilly areas, with a 7.3m-wide road comprising Base, Sub-Base, and Wearing Course layers.
The Coordinator of the Civil Engineering Department, Mr. Naziru Nuri, emphasized the importance of the excursion in linking theoretical knowledge with practical experience. He urged the students to be disciplined, responsible, and good ambassadors of the Polytechnic.
