Federal University Birnin Kebbi Holds Maiden Convocation, Graduates 3,373 Students

Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has hailed the maiden convocation of the Federal University Birnin Kebbi (FUBK) as a significant milestone for its graduates. Speaking at the ceremony held on Saturday at FUBK’s permanent site in Kalgo, the Governor congratulated the 3,373 graduates from the institution's 1st to 5th graduating classes.

Governor Idris praised the hard work and perseverance of the students and reaffirmed his administration's commitment to education and youth empowerment. "As a Governor and classroom teacher, I am committed to supporting education and empowering our youth to realize their full potential," he stated, adding that education is crucial for societal progress. As a gesture of support, the Governor donated a 36-seater bus to the university.

In his speech, the university's Visitor, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stressed the need for Nigerian universities to focus on demand-driven research to promote industrial growth and national development. He also noted the government’s efforts to address infrastructure deficits and increase education sector funding.

FUBK’s Chancellor, Eze Dr. Cletus Ikechukwu Ilomuanya, reaffirmed the university’s alignment with President Tinubu's "Renewed Hope" agenda, while Pro-Chancellor Alhaji Ali Abubakar Jatau expressed gratitude for the support of federal and state governments.

Vice Chancellor Professor Muhammad Zaiyanu Umar highlighted the university's growth, with five faculties and a College of Health Sciences, while also addressing challenges such as inadequate security and power supply.

The event featured the presentation of prizes to outstanding graduates and the conferment of honorary doctorate degrees on prominent Nigerians, including former Governor Saidu Nasamu Dakingari and philanthropist Dr. Muhammad Indimi.
