Senator Barau Jibrin Launches Postgraduate Scholarship for Engineering Students in BUK, Five Other Universities
Senator Barau I. Jibrin has launched a postgraduate scholarship program for 300 engineering students at Bayero University, Kano (BUK) and five other Nigerian universities.

In a significant move to support education and empower the next generation of professionals, the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has instituted a scholarship program for 300 deserving students pursuing postgraduate studies at Bayero University, Kano (BUK) and five other Nigerian universities.
The scholarship initiative, announced during a visit to the Vice Chancellor of BUK, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, is aimed at providing financial assistance to outstanding students in engineering and related disciplines. The program seeks to foster educational development and enhance skill acquisition among young scholars, thereby contributing to economic growth.
Speaking at the formal presentation of the initiative, the Chairman of the Committee, Professor Shehu Abdullahi Ma'aji, explained that the scholarship is exclusively for Engineering students from Kano State. He emphasized that eligible candidates must have a minimum CGPA of 3.5 in their first degree and must not be older than 35 years at the time of application.
Professor Ma'aji, who also serves as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the North West Development Commission, highlighted that the 2025 Domestic Postgraduate Scholarship Programme will be available at six prestigious universities. These include Bayero University, Kano; Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria; University of Ibadan; University of Nigeria, Nsukka; Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife; and University of Lagos.
The selected programs for the scholarship cover a range of engineering and technological fields, including Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics Technology, and Cyber Security. Others include Software Development, Data Science, Information Technology, Mineral Exploration, Oil and Gas, Hydrogeology & Environment, Applied Geophysics, and Metallurgical and Material Engineering.
The initiative aligns with Senator Jibrin’s broader efforts to promote educational excellence and workforce development in Kano State. By investing in postgraduate education, the program aims to produce a highly skilled workforce capable of driving technological advancements and economic progress in Nigeria.
