Federal University Gusau Matriculates 2,865 Students

The Federal University Gusau (FUGUS) in Zamfara state has matriculated 2865 students during it’s 10th matriculation for the 2022/2023 academic year, as vice chancellor professor Muazu Abubakar warned students against indulging into cultism, other vices.

Speaking during the matriculation ceremony held on Wednesday at the University convocation ground in Gusau,the vice chancellor, professor Muazu said newly admitted students should thank the Almighty God for the opportunity given to them to further your studies.

 

“This is the 10th Matriculation Ceremony since the establishment of the University in 2013.”

 

He disclosed that each year, Federal University Gusau witnesses an increase in the number of students looking for admission to further their studies.

 

“This is attributed to our track records of excellence, peace, high moral values and frowning to cultism and other vices, which the University is well known for since its inception.”

 

Muazu explained that priority has been given to the science and science based programmes with about 60%.

 

“This is in compliance with the Federal Government directives of Science to Humanity student ratio of 60:40 and our responses to the wish off country for rapid development through advances in science and technology.

 

“It is my pleasure to congratulate you again for securing admission into this great Univer You should count yourselves among the very fortunate ones and express gratitude to (SWT) for this opportunity. As I always said to matriculating students, the future of this

nation is in your hands, therefore, you must be ready to take it and have the obligation to be excellent ambassadors of our country.

 

“Please, note that only those that are duly matriculated (that is those who took the matriculation oath and signed the matriculation register) are considered as eligible students.”

 

He emphasised that between the matriculation and convocation ceremonies there are many mountains that students have to overcome before they earn the right to wear the academic gown again.

 

These steps include hard work, strict adherence to the University rules and regulations, personal discipline, high moral standards and respect for the constituted authorities, among others.

 

“Also, students must not indulge in examination malpractice and other social immoralities such as cultism, sexual harassment, theft, drug abuse, etc.

“The penalties for these vices are clearly spelt out in the student handbook which is compulsory and indeed every student to not only read but study it very deligently to serve as an important guide for successful stay in Federal University Gusau,” he said.

 

He further advised students to be extra vigilant and security conscious as they go about their daily activities.

 

“Kindly report any suspicious movement of persons or group (s) to the nearest security agents or appropriate University authorities.”

 

He maintained that the recently abducted students are always in their hearts and they are always praying for their safety and quick release.”The security agencies are consistently working to ensure their prompt rescue,” he said
