Federal University Gusau (FUGUS) has officially matriculated 2,229 newly admitted students into various undergraduate programs during its 11th Matriculation Ceremony for the 2023/2024 academic session. The event, held on campus, was attended by students, staff, and dignitaries.

In his address, the Vice Chancellor welcomed the new students and expressed gratitude to Allah for making the occasion possible. He acknowledged the increasing number of admission seekers each year, attributing it to the university’s commitment to academic excellence, peace, and high moral values. He reiterated FUGUS' firm stance against cultism and other vices, ensuring a safe and conducive learning environment.

The Vice Chancellor also announced the commencement of programs in the College of Health Sciences, which had received full accreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC). According to admission statistics for the 2023/2024 academic session, 5,066 candidates applied through UTME and Direct Entry, with 2,229 successfully admitted and registered across various faculties. He emphasized the university’s adherence to the Federal Government’s 60:40 Science to Humanities admission ratio, prioritizing science-related programs.

Addressing the fresh students, he reminded them that university degrees are awarded to those who demonstrate both academic excellence and good character. He urged them to adhere strictly to university rules, maintain high moral standards, and avoid engaging in examination malpractice, cultism, sexual harassment, theft, and drug abuse, all of which attract severe penalties as outlined in the Student Handbook.

Furthermore, he advised students to be security-conscious, urging them to report any suspicious activities to university authorities. He also reminded them to always wear their school identity cards while on campus for security and identification purposes.

The matriculation ceremony marks the official beginning of studentship at the university. The Vice Chancellor encouraged the new students to embrace the journey ahead with dedication, discipline, and a commitment to excellence.
