Federal University Lokoja Names Professor Gbenga Solomon Ibileye as 4th Substantive Vice-Chancellor

The Governing Council of the Federal University Lokoja (FUL) has announced the appointment of Professor Gbenga Solomon Ibileye as the institution’s 4th Substantive Vice-Chancellor.

The announcement, made on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, by the 4th Governing Council chaired by Professor Zubairu Tajo Abdallah, follows a rigorous, merit-based selection process. Professor Ibileye, a distinguished Professor of Discourse Analysis and Pragmatics and the immediate past Provost of the College of Postgraduate Studies, emerged as the top candidate from a competitive pool of 38 applicants.

Professor Ibileye’s appointment is historic, as he becomes the first internal candidate from within the University to be elevated to the office of Vice-Chancellor. He is set to succeed the incumbent, Professor Olayemi Durotimi Akinwumi, on February 15, 2026.

Coincidentally, both the outgoing and incoming Vice-Chancellors hail from Ekirin-Adde in the Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
