The President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, has said the union can call off its strike in few days, after a successful meeting with Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila.

According to Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, the meeting held on Monday 10, Oct, led by Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila will bring an end to the lingering strike, he further revealed that they are awaiting some paper document signing from the federal government before ending the strike.

Femi Gbajabiamila also revealed that some of the demands to be approved by the Nigerian government include the release of revitalisation funds for universities and payment of backlogs for the striking lecturers.

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila has hinted that the long-running strike embarked upon by members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU will be over “in matter of days.”

The Speaker stated this while briefing the leadership of ASUU about his meetings with the President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday.

Meanwhile, the leadership of ASUU has hailed the House of Representatives for its intervention in the fall out between university lecturers and the Federal Government.

The President of ASUU, Prof Emmanuel Osodeke, said, “For the first time, we have seen light at the end of the tunnel.”
