President Bola Tinubu’s government has announced plans to empower at least 5,000 National Youth Corps Service (NYSC) members with the sum of N10 million each. The initiative aims to improve the financial situation and support entrepreneurial endeavors of participants upon completion of their mandatory one-year service.

President Bola Tinubu’s government has announced plans to empower at least 5,000 National Youth Corps Service (NYSC) members with the sum of N10 million each.

The Minister of Youth Development, Jamila Ibrahim, disclosed this while speaking at a meeting with the NYSC management and leaders of Corps Producing Institutions (CPI) in Abuja.

The initiative aims to improve the financial situation and support entrepreneurial endeavors of participants upon completion of their mandatory one-year service."The focus of these reforms will be on instilling participants with an entrepreneurial mindset and prioritizing skills development," she stated. Ibrahim emphasized that this funding initiative is in line with forthcoming NYSC reforms and is separate from the Nigerian Youth Investment Fund program scheduled for 2024. "Although this is already part of the objectives carried out by the scheme, the aim is to partner with it to strengthen the mandate,” she added.

Ibrahim clarified that the reform will emphasize instilling an entrepreneurial mindset and skill development among participants. "So, we envision a future where the NYSC programme is not only self-sustaining but also a revenue-generating programme within the next five years,” she noted.

We anticipate a future where the NYSC program not only sustains itself but also becomes a revenue-generating endeavor within the next five years," she remarked. Efforts are underway to streamline the scheme for increased efficiency and benefit to Corps members by formalizing NYSC ventures into an investment and asset management entity.
