From 12 Years of Waitressing to Soaring the Skies: Monica Precious Sibalo’s Journey to Becoming a Pilot

In a remarkable tale of determination and resilience, Monica Precious Sibalo from Zambia has defied societal norms and financial constraints to fulfill her childhood dream of becoming a pilot. Monica's journey began at 18 when she took on a job as a waitress at a local restaurant. Despite her financial constraints, her passion for airplanes and a deep-seated desire to become a pilot fueled her determination. Saving every penny from her waitressing job, Monica harbored the dream of enrolling in a flight school someday.

Facing skepticism and discouragement, Monica remained resolute in her pursuit. She recounts, "Some people told me that I was wasting my time and that I should just settle for what I had. They said that flying was not for women, especially not for African women. But I did not listen to them. I knew that I had a purpose and a vision, and I was determined to make it happen."

Monica's turning point came when she finally secured the opportunity to enroll in flight school. Overcoming obstacles and naysayers, she embarked on her training with unbridled enthusiasm. Reflecting on the experience, she expressed, "It was a dream come true. I was so happy and excited to start my training. I knew it would be hard, but I was ready for it. I wanted to learn everything I could and become the best pilot I could be."
