Dr. Samuel Maduka Onyishi, Founder and Chancellor of Maduka University, who entered into a covenant with God to use his blessings to serve humanity has recounted his journey from being a spare parts dealer in Kano to establishing Peace Mass Transit while studying at the University of Nigeria. In this article, he shares his vision and mission for the university.

In a bid to fulfill a covenant made with God in 1993, Dr. Onyishi officially launched the institution on Thursday, November 23, 2023.

On why he chose to invest in the education sector, Dr. Onyishi emphasized the need to develop young minds for ethical success. He believes that education is a platform to demonstrate that individuals can achieve financial prosperity through hard work, dedication, and ethical practices.

The Maduka University, strategically located within an hour and 30 minutes radius of over 15 tertiary institutions, aims to collaborate with other institutions for mutual growth. Dr. Onyishi stressed the importance of imparting entrepreneurial skills to students, emphasizing that graduates should become employers of labor rather than employees.

He revealed that every student at Maduka University will undergo compulsory entrepreneurship courses throughout their academic journey. Dr. Onyishi attributed his success to his entrepreneurial spirit and expressed his desire to instill the same mindset in every graduate of the university.

In terms of facilities, Maduka University boasts state-of-the-art laboratories in various disciplines, including health and medical sciences, engineering, and computing. The institution is also developing Olympic standard sporting facilities to ensure an all-round education for its students.

Addressing concerns about security, Dr. Onyishi acknowledged the general security challenges in Nigeria but assured that the university is taking adequate measures. Collaborating with the Enugu State government, the Nigerian Police, and the military, as well as deploying modern security technology like CCTV cameras, the university aims to create a safe environment for students and staff.

Challenges faced during the project, including unfaithful contractors and economic fluctuations, were acknowledged by Dr. Onyishi. However, his determination to create a lasting impact and leave a legacy motivated him to overcome these challenges.

Maduka University is a private venture and a philanthropic initiative, with Dr. Onyishi asserting that it will be self-funded. He emphasized the long-term nature of investing in a university and the importance of continuous financial support for research and development.

As for tuition fees, Dr. Onyishi defended the university's fee structure, stating that it is among the lowest compared to other private institutions. He highlighted the university's non-profit nature and its commitment to providing affordable quality education.

Maduka University, with its focus on entrepreneurship and holistic development, aims to contribute significantly to the Nigerian education sector, producing graduates who are not only academically proficient but also equipped with the skills to navigate the challenges of the business world.
