In a remarkable initiative, the Enugu State government has reaffirmed its commitment to revolutionize education in rural areas. The state's Commissioner for Education, Prof. Leonard Mbah, delivered this commitment during the commissioning of the newly remodeled ultra-modern Primary School in Ihe, Awgu Local Government Area.

Prof. Mbah emphasized the government's plan to establish over 250 smart schools across the state's 260 wards, ensuring that every child, even in the most impoverished rural areas, receives a world-class education equipped with 21st-century tools.

The commissioner highlighted that the remodeling of Primary School Ihe aligns with Governor Peter Mbah's vision to elevate the state's education system to international standards. He asserted that education is a potent weapon in the battle against poverty and commended the community's involvement in the school's transformation.

Reflecting on the past, Prof. Mbah drew parallels with the 1960s when communities played a pivotal role in building and sustaining primary schools. He urged other communities in Enugu State to emulate the proactive approach taken by the old students in Ihe.

The Old Students Association President, Dr. Madueke Ekoh, expressed the association's dedication to giving back to society. Ekoh revealed that the initiative cost over N200 million and listed the extensive renovations, including modern toilet facilities, water borehole, sports facilities, fencing, a modern library, and solar power installation.

The Chairman of the event, Chief Anthony Udeh, acknowledged the significance of the project as a way of old students giving back to society. As the Chairman Joint Account/Allocation Committee, Enugu State, Udeh expressed gratitude for the unprecedented opportunity in the community's lifetime.

Mrs. Dorathy Udeani, the Head Teacher of the Primary School, expressed her gratitude, describing the project as "huge" and acknowledging the school's rescue from abandonment. Overwhelmed with emotion, she proposed renaming the school to "University Primary School" in recognition of its transformation.

The gesture has not only elevated Primary School Ihe to a model elementary school but has set a precedent for academic excellence in rural communities. The community, government, and old students have collaboratively created an environment conducive to quality education, setting the stage for a brighter future for the children of Ihe.
