Enugu State Government Greenlights Completion of Long-Abandoned International Conference Centre

In a significant development, the Enugu State Government has given the go-ahead for the completion of the long-abandoned Enugu International Conference Centre (ICC). The decision was announced by Ugochi Madueke, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, during a press briefing following a meeting chaired by Governor Peter Mbah at the Government House Enugu on Friday.

Madueke emphasized the state government's dedication to revitalizing dormant facilities and structures within the region. The Enugu ICC, once completed, is poised to become a world-class venue in the entire South East region, positioning Enugu as an international city alongside its international airport.

The commissioner highlighted the potential of the conference center to attract mega conferences and tourists from around the globe, thereby creating employment opportunities for the youth and boosting the state's internally generated revenue. Madueke assured that the project is slated for completion by March 2024.

The Enugu International Conference Centre, initially envisioned as one of the legacy projects of former Governor Chimaroke Nnamani’s administration in 2007, has languished in abandonment for the past 16 years. The impressive facility boasts a 3,000-capacity auditorium, a 1,500-capacity secondary event venue, a dome with a 500-seat capacity, a shopping facility, a food court, and a recreation center with a mini amusement park, among other enticing features.
