Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has urged members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) deployed to the state to serve as symbols of hope and take up responsibilities that uplift the lives of citizens.
Governor Fubara, represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Tammy Danagogo, delivered this charge at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Nonwa-Gbam in Tai local government area, while officially closing the 2024 Batch A Stream 1 orientation course for corps members deployed to the state.
He emphasized the importance of corps members seeing themselves as elite youths with a responsibility to serve the nation with integrity and patriotism. Fubara urged them to be disciplined and exemplary in character, serving as role models in their host communities.
Furthermore, Governor Fubara encouraged corps members to take the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program seriously, emphasizing the importance of equipping themselves for self-reliance.

In his remarks, the state NYSC coordinator, Mr. George Mfongang, expressed confidence in the corps members' readiness to excel and contribute meaningfully to their places of primary assignment across the state's 23 local government areas. He emphasized their role as promoters of peace, love, and mutual respect.
Governor Fubara also commended the host communities of Nonwa and Gbam for their continuous support and peaceful disposition towards the NYSC scheme in the state.
A total of 1,676 corps members, comprising 858 males and 812 females, successfully completed the orientation exercise in the state.
