FULAFIA Innovates Solar-Powered Cooker to Tackle Environmental Pollution, Energy Costs
The Centre for Energy Studies (CES) at Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) has successfully developed a solar-powered cooking gadget, offering a sustainable alternative to traditional cooking methods.
CES Director, Professor Emmanuel Hala Kwon-Ndung, showcased the innovative device to FULafia's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shehu Abdul Rahman. The solar-powered cooker aims to reduce environmental pollution and energy costs associated with electric, gas, and other hazardous cooking devices.
Professor Abdul Rahman praised the CES for its groundbreaking work, emphasizing the university's role in fostering creative solutions to national challenges. "This is what we establish centres and directorates in the university to do – come up with creative ideas to solve problems in our country," he said.
Commending Professor Kwon-Ndung's initiative, Abdul Rahman stressed the importance of research-driven development. "Centres are not only created for teaching but for training and research, and the outcome of research should bring about development. This is the type of development we yearn for."
To facilitate large-scale production, the Vice-Chancellor encouraged CES to seek collaborations with potential partners.
This breakthrough underscores FULafia's commitment to innovation, environmental sustainability, and community-driven solutions.
