FULafia commemorates the 2024 World AIDS Day with a road walk, health talks, HIV testing, and drama performances, emphasizing awareness and community health.
The Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) actively participated in the 2024 World AIDS Day commemoration through a series of impactful events aimed at raising awareness about HIV/AIDS and promoting community health.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Shehu Abdul Rahman, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research and Partnerships, Prof. Samaila Usman Dakyes, led the university’s delegation at the event. The program was organized by the Centre for Local Economic Development (CLED) and the Department of Epidemiology and Community Medicine, in collaboration with key stakeholders in Nasarawa State.
The event kicked off with a road walk from the Nasarawa State Ministry of Health along Jos Road to the Nasarawa State AIDS Control Agency (NASACA) office on Shendam Road. The procession aimed to draw attention to the ongoing fight against HIV/AIDS and the importance of community participation in the campaign.
Highlights of the day included a health talk by experts, a drama performance by FULafia Theatre and Media Arts (TMA) students, and free HIV testing services. Attendees also received information, education, and communication (IEC) materials as well as details about treatment and prevention options.
The event underscored the university's commitment to public health education and its role in fostering partnerships with local and state agencies to tackle health challenges.
