FULafia Plans to Implement Street Naming and House Numbering in Students' Residential Areas

The Management of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) plans to name streets and number houses in neighbouring communities housing students' of the University.

The plan was made known by the Vice-Chancellor FULafia, Prof. Shehu Abdul Rahman, during an interactive meeting with the staff of the Directorate of Environmental Safety, Students Welfare Committee, Director of FULafia Consult Ltd, Director of Health Services and some officials of the Students Representative Council (SRC).

He said street naming and house numbering “are very important because it would be easier for people to recognise and relate with the occupants of the areas, provide a sense of order and organisation in a neighbourhood and help emergency responders locate those in need.”

The vice-chancellor disclosed that the  University was working with relevant agencies of government, particularly the authorities of the Lafia Local Government Council, village heads and community leaders to ensure success of the exercise.

He used the opportunity of the meeting to commend the staff of the Environmental Safety Directorate and the Students Welfare Committee for their commitment and dedication to duty, promising to continue to provide support to enhance their productivity.

Those present at the meeting included the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Administration, Prof. Ali Shugaba, Registrar, Nuradeen Abdu,  Director, Centre For Continuing Education and Professional Development, Chairman of Students Welfare Committee, Dr. Hassan Imam, Acting Director, FULafia Consult Ltd, Dr. Usman Ibrahim, Director Environmental Safety, Wing Commander Mohamed Umar Awe (rtd), Director, FULafia Health Services, Dr. Sunday Agunede, President of SRC, Idris Shuaibu, Representative of the SIC and many staff of the University.
