The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), Prof. Shehu Abdul Rahman, has described the maiden inaugural lecture of the Federal University Gashua (FUGA), Yobe State, as a defining milestone in the institution’s academic development.

Abdul Rahman, who chaired the historic lecture on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, said the event signified FUGA’s formal entry into the global tradition of scholaship and national development.

He said that his participation reflected inter-university collaboration within Nigeria’s university system.

He expressed his gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor of FUGA, Prof. Maimuna Waziri, for inviting him to chair the occasion which he described as a homecoming, having served as the institution’s pioneer vice-chancellor of FUGA from 2013 to 2016.

Commending Waziri who was the maiden inaugural lecturer, Abdul Rahman highlighted her contributions to the fields of analytical and environmental chemistry, particularly in water quality, food safety and public health.

Abdul Rahman said "I hope that the lecture would inspire academic excellence and strengthen Nigeria’s university system."
