The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has appointed Prof. Olusegun Idowu as its new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), following his election at the 232nd Statutory Meeting of Senate on November 27, 2025.

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has appointed Prof. Olusegun Idowu as its new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), following his election at the 232nd Statutory Meeting of Senate on November 27, 2025.

Prof. Idowu, who previously served as Director of the Institute of Food Security, Environmental Resources and Agricultural Research (IFSERAR), is widely recognized for his integrity, institutional loyalty, and commitment to academic excellence. His appointment is particularly notable as a distinguished FUNAAB alumnus ascends to a senior leadership position within the University.

He succeeds Prof. Olukayode Akinyemi, who recently assumed office as Vice-Chancellor of Aletheia University, Ago-Iwoye. Prof. Idowu is a Registered Animal Scientist with over 28 years of experience spanning teaching, research, and community engagement. His career at FUNAAB began as a Graduate Assistant in the College of Animal Science and Livestock Production (COLANIM) and progressed to his current status as Professor of Monogastric Animal Nutrition.

Beyond academia, Prof. Idowu has held significant leadership roles, including Head of the Department of Animal Nutrition, Director of the Distance Learning Centre, Chairman of the Senate Coordinating Committee on Examination Results (SECOCER), and Chairman of the Timetable and Examination Committee (TIMTEC). He also serves as a Federal Government appointee on the Governing Council of the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

These accomplishments reflect his dedication to administrative efficiency, community-focused development, and scholarly excellence, earning him widespread respect among colleagues, students, and stakeholders across Nigeria’s higher education sector.
