FUNAAB Intensifies Preparations to Host 41st FISON Annual Conference and AGM in October

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), is set to host the 41st Annual Conference and Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Fisheries Society of Nigeria (FISON), with preparations for the national event gaining momentum.

The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), is set to host the 41st Annual Conference and Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Fisheries Society of Nigeria (FISON), with preparations for the national event gaining momentum.

The conference, scheduled to hold from October 26 to 31, 2026, at FUNAAB, has prompted the Local Organising Committee (LOC) to intensify planning efforts towards ensuring a successful and impactful gathering.

At its meeting held on July 31, 2026, the LOC reviewed the proposed budget submitted by the Editorial Subcommittee alongside the draft programme of activities, with discussions focused on prudent resource allocation, effective planning and seamless execution of the conference.

The Secretary of the LOC, Dr. Sherifat Adegbesan, disclosed that all subcommittees would present and defend their proposed budgets, beginning with the Editorial Subcommittee.

She explained that the exercise was designed to promote transparency, accountability and ensure that proposed expenditures align with the objectives of the conference.

Presenting the Editorial Subcommittee’s proposal, Dr. Oluwaseun Ojelade outlined the budget for the production of the Book of Abstracts and Conference Proceedings, technical session materials, multimedia equipment, refreshments for technical officials, reviewers’ facilitation and other editorial activities.

Dr. Ojelade also disclosed that 119 acceptance letters had been issued to authors whose manuscripts successfully passed the review process, indicating the high level of participation expected at the conference.

Members of the Committee commended the Editorial Subcommittee for the progress achieved and recommended a comprehensive review of the proposed expenditure.

They stressed the need to ensure value for money while maintaining high standards in the delivery of the conference activities.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Professor Festus Adeosun, emphasised the importance of aligning the budget with the approved conference programme to guarantee efficient utilisation of resources.

Professor Adeosun, who is also the Dean of Student Affairs, appreciated members of the Committee for their constructive contributions and urged all subcommittees to incorporate observations from the deliberations into their revised proposals.

He expressed confidence that the commitment and collaboration of all members would contribute to the successful hosting of the 41st FISON Annual Conference and AGM at FUNAAB.
