Prof. Aderinboye, who led the Research Team, highlighted that the pen was made possible through the 2023 National Research Fund (NRF) grant. Designed to comfortably house 30 animals (or up to 60 if needed), the facility will support ongoing and future research endeavours. The focus lies in nutritional interventions using plant-based additives to enhance nutrient utilization in ruminants, promoting eco-friendly livestock production.

Construction of the pen began in March and is integral to a two-year research initiative. Equipped with water supply, electricity, an office space with a toilet facility, a laboratory, and a store, the pen is poised to advance livestock science.
