FUOYE Vice-Chancellor Urges Innovation and Sustainability as Five-Year Tenure Concludes
Outgoing Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, has urged the university community to embrace continuous innovation and proactive engagement to sustain its current growth trajectory.
Speaking ahead of his formal exit on February 10, 2026, Prof. Fasina reflected on a transformative tenure defined by the "Blue Roof Legacy," which saw the execution of over 160 infrastructural projects and a 310% increase in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
Academic Expansion: The number of faculties grew from eight to 18, with student enrollment surging from 20,000 to over 60,000, making FUOYE the fourth most subscribed university in Nigeria.
Infrastructure: Landmark projects completed include the new Senate Building, the 1,000-seat Victor Ndoma-Egba Auditorium, and the Faculty of Law complex.
Global Recognition: The university secured a top-four ranking in Nigeria according to the Times Higher Education 2026 rankings.
Innovation Hubs: Established the College of Medicine, the FUOYE Business School, and a dedicated Innovation Laboratory.
Prof. Fasina highlighted that his administration's success was anchored on a 25-Year Strategic Plan (2025–2050), which he urged his successor to implement rigorously to ensure FUOYE becomes a world-class citadel of learning. He also recommended strengthening university-industry linkages through models like industrial parks.
The University's 10th Convocation ceremonies, currently ongoing, serve as a valedictory for Prof. Fasina. His successor, Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, is scheduled to be inaugurated as the 5th substantive Vice-Chancellor on Wednesday, February 11, 2026.
