FUTA Alumna Mercy Akerele Appointed Assistant Professor at Washington University School of Medicine

Mercy Akerele, an alumna of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), has been appointed as an Assistant Professor at the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology, Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.

Mercy Akerele, an esteemed alumna of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), has been appointed as an Assistant Professor at the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology (MIR) at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. Akerele is one of four new faculty members joining the prestigious institute.

Dr. Akerele will be serving in the division of nuclear medicine as a physicist. She recently completed her residency in diagnostic medical physics at the University of Florida's department of radiology. Her academic journey includes an MSc in Physics and Technology of Nuclear Reactors from the University of Birmingham and a PhD in Biomedical Imaging Science from the University of Leeds in the United Kingdom. She earned her BTech in Physics Electronics from FUTA, graduating with first-class honors.

Professor Adenike Oladiji, the Vice Chancellor of FUTA, expressed her pride in Akerele's accomplishment, stating, “I congratulate our worthy alumna, Mercy Akerele, who graduated with a first class from FUTA.
