FUTA Department of Agricultural and Environmental Engineering Celebrates Outstanding Alumni
The Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) recently celebrated outstanding alumni from the Department of Agricultural and Environmental Engineering (AGE) at a prestigious event attended by dignitaries and esteemed guests, including the Deji of Akure Kingdom.
The Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) witnessed a jubilant celebration as alumni from the Department of Agricultural and Environmental Engineering (AGE) convened to honor some of their distinguished peers. The event, held at the Multipurpose building of the University on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, garnered significant attention and participation from esteemed dignitaries, including the Deji of Akure Kingdom, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi.
In her remarks, Vice Chancellor Professor Adenike Oladiji expressed her delight at receiving the invitation to this auspicious occasion. She commended the AGE department for consistently producing exceptional graduates who have made significant contributions across various fields since FUTA's inception in 1982. Professor Oladiji highlighted the department's substantial role in the university's growth and development, noting the numerous academic and administrative positions held by AGE alumni within the institution. She emphasized the importance of alumni contributions to the alma mater's advancement and encouraged continued support from FUTA graduates worldwide.
During the lecture titled "The Relevance of Agricultural Engineering Training In Contemporary Nigeria," delivered by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Peak Precision Products, Engr. Ayobami Olubori, represented by Eng. Gabriel Oshoffa and Eng. Abidemi Aboaba, attendees gained insights into the critical role of Agricultural Engineering in addressing challenges facing Nigeria's agricultural sector. Engr. Olubori underscored the significance of applying engineering principles to enhance agricultural productivity and food security, emphasizing the need for mechanized farming and effective water conservation management.
Eng. Marcus Ogunbiyi, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Abuja, commended the organizers for the successful homecoming event. He praised the efforts of FUTA staff and students in contributing to the university's growth and development, urging current students to strive for excellence and make meaningful contributions to society.
Head of Department, AGE, Professor Ayodele Ajayi, expressed gratitude to all attendees and highlighted the event's significance in fostering a strong bond between the alma mater and its alumni. He emphasized the importance of hard work, integrity, and lifelong learning to current students while thanking alumni for their ongoing support.
In a brief address, Oba Aladelusi congratulated the award winners and stressed the importance of giving back to alma maters to aid their development and inspire future generations. He also commended Vice Chancellor Professor Oladiji for her leadership in steering FUTA towards progress.

The highlight of the occasion was the award ceremony, which recognized outstanding alumni in two categories - Pacesetters and Remarkable. Notable awardees included Eng. Marcus Ogunbiyi, Prof. Victor Norika, Prof. Leo Ayodeji Sunday, and Eng. Gbenga Obagbemi, among others.
