UNIZIK Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Anyaehie, Highlights University’s Research-To-Market Drive At Huawei Education Summit ’26

The Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, UNIZIK, Professor Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, has showcased the University’s approach to converting research and innovation into practical solutions at the 3rd Huawei Education Summit ’26 held in Abuja.

Speaking during a panel session titled "From Research to Market," Professor Anyaehie revealed that UNIZIK has developed a taxi-booking application for students. He explained that the University is leveraging its population of over 60,000 students as a ready market to test and scale homegrown solutions.

He said his priority is to first develop innovations that directly address the needs of the university community before extending them to the wider society.

The Vice-Chancellor also disclosed that UNIZIK is currently developing a dedicated payment application for students to simplify transactions on campus. In addition, he said plans are underway for the University to commence its own electricity generation project aimed at improving power supply and reducing operational costs.

According to Professor Anyaehie, the initiatives reflect UNIZIK’s commitment to building solutions that move beyond research papers and create tangible value within the University and in society at large.

He noted that partnerships with technology firms such as Huawei are critical to providing the infrastructure, training, and exposure needed to sustain the University’s innovation drive.

The Huawei Education Summit ’26 brought together Vice-Chancellors, policymakers, and industry leaders to discuss digital transformation, research commercialization, and skills development in Nigerian higher institutions.
