The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Nigeria Council recently held its annual Students' Technical Symposium and Exhibition (STSE) at the esteemed University of Uyo (UNIUYO) from March 14th to 16th, 2024. The event, aimed at fostering innovation, transformation, and sustainability within Nigeria's student chapters, witnessed an impressive display of talent and ingenuity from bright minds across the country, including representatives from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO).
Themed "Securing the Future of the Energy Industry: Maximizing Opportunities in the Petroleum Value Chain for Students and Young Professionals," the 3-day symposium provided a platform for students and young professionals to delve into the intricacies of the energy industry, exploring avenues for growth and development.

Various technical, professional, and panel sessions were conducted throughout the event, offering participants valuable insights and networking opportunities. Additionally, several competitions showcased the best talents from Nigeria's tertiary institutions, highlighting the country's potential in the energy sector.

One of the highlights of the symposium was the fiercely contested Petroquiz session, where teams battled it out to emerge as Africa Regional Qualifiers for the prestigious Petrobowl competition in the USA. FUTO, alongside teams from the University of Ibadan (UI) and the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE), emerged victorious, securing their spots to represent the continent at the global stage from September 23rd to 25th, 2024.

Expressing gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to the success of the event, a representative from FUTO extended appreciation to the SPE Nigeria Council for the unique privilege to serve as Student Programs Co-Chair II. Special recognition was also given to Engr. Oghenerume Ogolo, Engr. Ebifagha Bebenimibo, and Engr. Isemin Båbå for their exceptional leadership and dedication amidst challenges.
