Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has received a significant donation of publications from the Getty Conservation Institute, USA. The collection, which includes numerous books on conservation and heritage management, was facilitated by Terry Little, a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Archaeology and Heritage Studies, ABU.
Terry Little recently completed a three-month residency as a conservation scholar at the Getty Trust in Los Angeles, California, and leveraged his time there to secure the donation. He formally presented the books to the Vice-Chancellor of ABU, Prof. Kabiru Bala, in a ceremony attended by top university officials, including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Ahmed Doko Ibrahim; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Advancement, Research, and Innovation), Prof. Aliyu Rafindadi Sanusi; and Registrar, Malam Rabiu Samaila.
During the presentation, Little emphasized that the publications cover both theoretical and practical aspects of conservation, including museum collection management, monument preservation, and archaeological site protection. These resources, he noted, would serve as valuable learning materials for students and researchers in related fields.
Prof. Kabiru Bala, in his response, expressed deep appreciation to the Getty Conservation Institute for its generous contribution and commended Terry Little for his role in facilitating the donation. He stated that the books would be housed in the university’s Kashim Ibrahim Library, where they would be accessible to students and faculty members specializing in archaeology, architecture, heritage studies, and conservation.
The donation marks a significant step in strengthening ABU’s academic resources, particularly in the field of conservation, and further enhances the university’s commitment to research and education in heritage preservation.
