Glorious Vision University (GVU) holds 4th inaugural lecture

Glorious Vision University stood agog  yesterday  with  ears tingled with excitement as  Professor Cyrille Ngamen Kouassi , Professor of Philosophy, delivers and debunks the aged long fallacies of the Western Supremacy in the GVU 4th Inaugural Lecture Series, Titled: Western Fallacies and the ‘’Monkeyism’’ Theory: A philosophical Enquiry into Why some men are not humans, Myschoolnews.ng report.

In his welcome address, the Vice-Chancellor, Glorious Vision University, Professor Adewumi Babatunde Idowu, thanked God Almighty for his unending grace and the privilege to preside over the 4th Inaugural Lecture and 2nd in his tenure as the Vice-Chancellor of the Institution.

Delivering his Lecture, Professor Ngamen Kouassi, opined that his Inaugural Lecture was driven by his desire to debunk the “time – yellowed” impression of some people especially the Western World that Africans are lazy, primitive, uncultured and good for nothing, hence, the monkeyism theory. He queried the erroneous audacity of some people to think that Africans must be ‘’cultured’’, ‘’civilized’’, and exposed’’ to real development to be ‘’real humans’’ in the white man’s sense of the word and asked unequivocally, who is a human being and how does he /she look like? If all men are equal before God, then why and how is it that some men are not humans? Is there any relationship between culture and race? Does the qualification for being a human being dependent on the whims and caprices of other fellowmen? If yes, why and how? Is culture hereditary? If no, then what is the way forward for the present day Africa?

From the aforementioned, Professor Cyrille Ngamen Kouassi, began to debunk these western mischiefs and the derogatory ‘’monkeyism’’ theory from a true African perspective. He quipped that the wiles of the western world had been recognized, and therefore, the Inaugural Lecture was an opportunity to prove unequivocally, that  African cultures and traditions, Arts and Aesthetics, Education, Politics, Economy, Religion, Ethics and Morality were and are still very sound and in line with the journey towards real development. Professor Ngamen Kouassi maintained that there is a common humanity and therefore, no race is ‘’superior or inferior’’ to the other. Since all men are equal before God, Africans should not be seen as inferior or “monkey – like”

As a way of recommendations, Professor Ngamen Kouassi insisted that Africans should re-decolonise their current mentality. Africans should as well go beyond the blame game attitude since they were not the only ones that had been colonised. He emphasised that Africa must wake up.
