Gov. Sule Calls for Unity as COE Akwanga Provost Dr. Barau Best Holds Thanksgiving Service
A spirit of gratitude and calls for communal harmony defined the thanksgiving service held on April 19, 2026, by Dr. Barau Nuhu Barnabas Best, the Provost of the College of Education (COE), Akwanga.
The event, attended by high-ranking government officials and traditional rulers, served as a platform for the Provost to appreciate God for his family and his appointment to lead the institution.
The Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule, attended as the Special Guest of Honour. In his address, the Governor cautioned against the "ethnicization of leadership" and tribal sentiments. He urged citizens to assess leaders based on their track records rather than baseless criticism.
Governor Sule also highlighted his administration's support for the College, citing progress in manpower development, the payment of promotion arrears and gratuities, and significant infrastructural improvements. He reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the institution’s reputation through continued government intervention.
Expressing his gratitude, Dr. Barau Best referenced Psalm 18:19, describing his career and appointment as a testimony of divine rescue and favour. He thanked Governor Sule for his unwavering support and pledged to the Paramount Ruler of Mada Land, HRH Pst. Samson Gamu Yare (JP), to remain a catalyst for unity and development in the region.
The Provost also extended heartfelt appreciation to the staff and students of the College, noting, “If you have not been there for me, I wouldn’t have been where I am today.”
The service concluded as a symbol of renewed commitment to service and progress for both the Mada community and the College of Education, Akwanga.
