Governor Peter Mbah Demands Quality and Timely Completion of 260 Smart Schools and Healthcare Projects
Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah emphasizes quality and timeliness in the construction of 260 smart schools and primary healthcare facilities across the state.
In a recent inspection tour, Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah emphasized the need for high-quality construction and timely completion of 260 smart schools and 260 Type-2 primary health facilities across the state's 260 wards. He warned contractors and site engineers against any form of compromise, indicating that the state government would impose strict penalties for substandard work.*
Governor Mbah's message was conveyed through the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, during the inspection in Ezeagu LGA on Wednesday. He stressed that projects must meet specified standards and urged contractors to follow their contract terms to ensure timely completion.
Prof. Onyia highlighted the critical role of the inspection team, which includes the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Gerald Otiji; the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Nwabueze Mbah; the Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Hon. Chris Robert Ozongwu; the Chairman of the Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board (ENSUBEB), Dr. Gabriel Ajah; and Special Adviser on Projects Development and Implementation, Uche Nwatu.
"The inspection's purpose is to guarantee that the construction process aligns with the original specifications and uses quality materials from the foundation to completion," Onyia explained. "His Excellency is focused on minimizing the risks associated with construction, particularly as Enugu State will soon have almost 500 live projects across all wards, including roads and other infrastructure."

The Governor's team has built a robust monitoring mechanism to ensure the projects' quality, integrity, and sustainability. Onyia mentioned that they are also mitigating cost risks by keeping construction on schedule to avoid delays that could lead to additional expenses.
"We are also engaging local stakeholders to ensure the safety and security of the construction sites, reducing the risk of theft," Onyia noted. "It's crucial that these projects are not only monitored but also foster community ownership to ensure sustainability. We want smart schools, smart teachers, and a smart workforce emerging from our local governments."
