Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has launched the Ounje Eko Food Discount Market at Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) to provide affordable food options with a 25% discount for students, staff, and the surrounding community.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has inaugurated the Ounje Eko Food Discount Market at Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) in collaboration with the college’s management. This initiative aims to provide affordable food options to students, staff, and the surrounding community, offering a 25% discount on various food items.

The market will operate every Friday from September 20 to October 25, 2024, between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., with the possibility of an extension based on its success. At the opening ceremony, the Deputy Rector, Administration, Arc. ’Femi Lawal, expressed gratitude to Governor Sanwo-Olu for the partnership, highlighting its alignment with YABATECH’s mission to positively impact the community.

“This initiative will ease the burden on our students and staff, ensuring access to affordable food options during these challenging times,” stated Arc. Lawal.

The Ounje Eko Food Discount Market aims to alleviate the economic strain on residents amid rising food prices. Market Leader, Mrs. Alice Ogunbiyi, commended YABATECH for its swift cooperation in launching the market. She detailed the food items available, including eggs, gari, beans, rice, pepper, and bread.

Dr. Sarah Oketunji, the Polytechnic Librarian, lauded the government's initiative and urged the college community to adhere to the market's operational guidelines. She also requested an extension of the market beyond its initial six-week timeframe.
