A professor from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Oguejiofor Ujam, was kidnapped along the Opi-Nsukka-Ugwogo-Nike Road in Enugu State on Sunday. Ujam, who is the dean of UNN's School of General Studies, was abducted along with an unidentified man while returning to Nsukka.
In a disturbing turn of events, a professor from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Oguejiofor Ujam, has been kidnapped along the Opi-Nsukka-Ugwogo-Nike Road in Enugu State. The incident reportedly took place on Sunday evening as Professor Ujam, who serves as the Dean of the School of General Studies at UNN, was traveling back to Nsukka from Enugu metropolis.
Sources close to the situation have confirmed that Professor Ujam was abducted alongside an unidentified male companion. The kidnappers have since reached out to the family of the other victim, demanding a ransom, though specific details on the ransom have not been disclosed.
The university’s spokesperson, Okwun Omeaku, declined to confirm the incident directly but expressed concern that extensive media coverage could hinder efforts to secure the professor’s release. "Blowing up" the matter in the media, Mr. Omeaku said, could endanger the victim’s safety and complicate negotiations with the abductors.
The incident marks the second kidnapping case on the Opi-Nsukka-Ugwogo-Nike Road in less than 24 hours, following the recent abduction of a Federal Road Safety Corps official along the same route. Authorities in Enugu State are reportedly investigating the incident, though the police spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, has yet to issue an official statement, asking the public for patience as he gathers further details.
