The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has revealed that its newly appointed registrar, Professor Segun Aina, was instrumental in the early development of the Computer-Based Test (CBT) system that transformed examinations in Nigeria.

In a statement released on Thursday by JAMB spokesperson Fabian Benjamin, the board described Aina as a familiar figure within its operational framework, highlighting his significant contributions during the formative years of the CBT transition.

According to the statement, Aina actively participated in the foundational stages of implementing the CBT model, a reform widely regarded as one of the most impactful changes in Nigeria’s examination system.

“Prof. Aina is not new to the operational ecosystem of the Board, having played a key role during the formative stage of the CBT regime, which has transformed the conduct of examinations in Nigeria,” the statement noted.

The board also disclosed that the computer engineering expert, known for his experience in data-driven institutional systems, will officially assume office as registrar on August 1, 2026.

JAMB praised the legacy of its previous registrars, stating that their expertise and leadership have consistently strengthened the institution over the years.

“Over the years, the Board has been fortunate to have registrars with world-class experience whose leadership has continued to move the organisation from strength to strength,” the statement added.

Benjamin further stated that the management and staff of JAMB had congratulated Aina on his appointment and expressed optimism about working with him as he prepares to lead the examination body into a new phase.

Earlier, presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga described Aina as “a distinguished academic and systems expert with extensive experience in national examination systems, digital infrastructure, and public-sector institutional reform.”

Onanuga also pointed out that the 39-year-old scholar, who turns 40 in July, is set to become the youngest registrar in JAMB’s history.
