“I Was the Child Who Wasn’t Supposed to Be Born”: Sarah Ayashim Redefines Single Motherhood and Academic Greatness

Sarah Ayashim, a remarkable individual from Zangon Kataf, Kaduna State, has made history as the Best Graduating Nursing Student from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS). She achieved an outstanding First Class GPA of 4.61, defying societal expectations and redefining single motherhood.

Born out of wedlock, Sarah faced societal stigma from a young age. However, she refused to be defined by her circumstances. With the unwavering support of her single mother, she pursued her academic dreams. Initially, she aspired to study Medicine, but after missing out on admission in 2017, she enrolled in the College of Nursing and Midwifery in Kafanchan. This setback turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as she discovered her true passion for nursing.

At UDUS, Sarah noticed that no Christian student had ever graduated with a First Class in Nursing. Determined to break this trend, she worked tirelessly, employing a rigorous study routine that included:

- Starting studies from the first week of every semester

- Breaking her day into 2-hour study intervals
